Teaching English Internships. Join a school in Palma to assist English language classes or content classes (science, art, history) taught in English, while becoming part of the school community. You will take a seminar on TESL and receive 3 credits.
Internships. Build you resume and earn up to 6 credits working at a local business. You might do marketing analysis and research at The Hotel Factory; learn to cook at the kitchen of the five star restaurant at Hotel Can Alomar; support the finance controller with sales and contracts at the offices of BG Hotels; or help organize events such as the SuperYatch or UIB academic congresses.
Volunteering. Through Red Cross Youth, find a cause that spurs you to action, from the environment to AIDs to children in need.

JWU students may have a Winter Term Away when participating in semester programs. A winter term away means that you will not be registered at JWU during the winter term but that you have a plan to register for the following term.
If the dates of your exchange program or affiliate partner program use the semester calendar, this means that it includes more than one regular JWU academic term (Fall, Winter, Spring). You will need to discuss this term away with your Academic Counselor and Financial Planner in SAFS. This will ensure that JWU understands your academic plans, maintains your student status, and protects your student loans from going into deferment. When participating in a semester study abroad, you only register for and are billed for one JWU term (Fall or Spring) and do not register for classes for Winter Term. All students should be aware of their study abroad program’s dates and how they relate to JWU's academic calendar.
THE PROGRAM PARTNER - CIEE
Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is an educational organization dedicated to providing challenging and enriching study abroad programs. Learn more about CIEE from their web site. On these affiliate programs, CIEE staff members provide program-specific advising and guidance and answer students' and families' questions about the program details.
ACADEMICS The specific course descriptions and options are described on the host website. It is important to plan how the courses abroad will be applied towards your JWU degree.
Total Credit Hours Earned Abroad On This Program:
14-18 semester credits (21-27 quarter credits): JWU students can satisfy 18 or 22.5 quarter credits.
A list of known credit/course equivalencies is available on the Student Academic Services Transfer Evaluation System (TES) website. If you would like to take courses abroad that do not appear on the list of known credit/course equivalencies, we will help you request a new course equivalency. You are required to complete a Study Abroad Exchange and Foreign Course Equivalency Form for your academic plan abroad in order to coordinate your plan with Study Abroad and SAS. Contact your Study Abroad Advisor for assistance in completing and submitting the course equivalency form.
Since host courses are not from the JWU catalog, you will schedule at JWU for a generic placeholder course that is holding the space for the host courses completed abroad. You will only be able to schedule for the placeholder course if you shared your final academic plan with SAS and official summary notes have been written in your JWU degree audit.
Upon completion of the program, the host will send an official transcript to JWU Study Abroad. Previously approved courses which are successfully passed will be applied to the JWU transcript as transfer credit. The typical timeline for your JWU transcript to be updated is 3-5 months.
THE PROCESS To participate in this program and receive credit toward your JWU degree, you must complete the following steps:
Submit a JWU Study Abroad application by clicking "apply now" at the top or bottom of this page. Applications will not be reviewed until the application fee is submitted.
Study Abroad reviews your JWU application and will "Accept" your application if all minimum eligibility requirements have been met*. (*Final acceptance into the program only comes from the program affiliate partner directly.)
Complete the affiliate partner's application, available on its web site. JWU and the program host have separate application systems. Please be advised that there may be duplicate information requested.
Make all program payments, such as tuition, directly to JWU.
Follow the instructions of both JWU and the affiliate partner for participation in this program.

ORIENTATION Each program has a mandatory orientation process which starts the term before your program starts. Failure to participate in the various meetings listed below may jeopardize your ability to participate in the program.
Pre-departure meetings vary according to the program model and typically include discussions, on-line resources, and assignments to ensure you understand your specific program, the courses, housing, costs and other related details. These meetings may be a combination of in-person and web-based meeting formats.
